Halfway through winter almost to spring

OK. Now pay attention. This is how it works: if the groundhog sees his shadow, it means that there are still six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, it means that spring is only six weeks away.
Huh?
There are always six more weeks of winter. Spring is always six weeks away. That is why we mark the day in the first place. To remind us that winter is now half over. Despite whatever prognostication the groundhog might make, spring is never early, never late. Spring always starts exactly on time -- on the vernal equinox six weeks hence. But first we have to finish the rest of winter.

My sister was a very young single mother who went through some of the most hellacious experiences I can remember. In spite of it all, she put herself through beauty college, studied with the world’s top experts and opened her own salon a few years ago and is an award winning business owner at the top of her game. She also raised a pretty cool son all the while and I couldn’t be prouder of her. I am glad she is getting the recognition she finally deserves. She never let go of her dreams in spite of all her hardships- a real c mom, who is as pretty both inside and out, as she makes her clients.

I love the simplicity of paperwhites

These eager growers are magical in their simplicity and add a fragrant post holiday cheer to home. I started forcing “narcissus” years ago at Christmas time because I thought it was a good example of growth and tenacity for my son to witness. With a little sunshine and water they will grow almost anywhere and make a quick home made hostess gift. This year Sheri gave me last minute bulbs that began to bloom post New Year and they are still gracing our home with their cheery white faces and green promising shoots.

In 2012 we will not be limited by negative constraints that box up our potentiality. We will not be lead by fear that binds our creativity and imagination. We will not be persuaded by media designed to instill disharmony and disintegration of our core beliefs. We will not let financial instability affect our charity and compassion for others. We will not disparage when mother nature redefines our perceptions of the natural cycle. We will say goodbye to the frenetic energy of 2011 with a fond adieu and wisdom of lessons learned. This New Year, we will break out of the box of unhealthy attitudes and wrongful thinking and dance on the flower of our true and soulful expressions.
